OBJECTIVES:
The SPVI & SPVIS courses were designed to meet the competency level required by the industry and employers in the Nigeria energy market, which include ability to undertake the following:
- Plan installation work;
- Assist/install PV systems (off-grid);
- Assist/perform maintenance and troubleshooting tasks;
- Maintain records required for monitoring PV system;
- Observe health and safety regulations; and
- Manage and maintain relationships with customers.
The MGD course has been designed to meet the technical and managerial requirement for designing and managing mini-grid system in the Nigerian residential and industrial sector. Thus, the participants are expected to attain the required competency in their ability to among other things:
- Plan and design successfully mini-grid for both residential and industrial;
- Perform economic analysis for profitability of mini-grid system;
- Supervise construction and commission of mini-grid power systems; and
- Provide related advisory services on solar photovoltaic and hydropower.
COURSE BENEFITS:
- SPVI & SPVIS: the benefits to be derived by participants who attend SPVI & SPVIS courses in the short and the long terms, would be the ability to be self-employed, especially with the growing number of on-going Solar PV Installations in the Country under the existing Independent Power Plant (IPP) Project Initiative of the Federal Government.
- MGD: the prospective graduates of MGD course would be well-placed to serve as Consultants, Contractors or Investors in the mini-grid market, which is fast evolving in the Country. The course will also be of immense benefits to regulatory Officers in the Electricity Regulatory business as well as Engineers who wish to undertake technical evaluation and marketing of electricity supply products.

- Feeding (Breakfast and Lunch)
- Training Manual
- Writing Materials
- PPE Kits: (Safety helmet, safety goggle, safety boots, electrician hand gloves and lab coat)
- Certificate of Participation (to be given by ISSCeRER[UMYU])
- Certificate of Competency (to be endorsed by Nigerian Energy Support Programme [NESP] in collaboration with Nigerian Power Sector Programme [NPSP], German Cooperation, Power Africa and USAID).
ELIGIBILITY:
The courses are open to Engineers or registrable practitioners with a minimum of HND or B.Sc, B.Eng. in Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering. In special cases, graduates of Physics and other relevant science background may be considered if proven to possess the requisite engineering experience to undertake such course.

Note that participants are responsible for their accommodation. However, interested participants can make arrangement for a self contained accommodation at the University Postgraduate Hostel or the University Guest House.
